Lane Head Barns is within easy reach of a number of well-known rock climbing areas, including the magnificent gritstone crags of the Roaches, Hen Cloud and Ramshaw Rocks, and the classic limestone of Dovedale and the Manifold Valley.
The Roaches is a prominent gritstone ridge above Leek and Tittesworth Water, 5 miles north of Lane Head Barns. The ridge, with its rock formations, rises steeply to 450m and includes magnificent imposing buttresses of superb natural grit up to 30m high.
